Cit Heist Dobsonville

Police successfully thwarted a planned cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Dobsonville, Soweto, during an intelligence-driven operation. Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted the suspects before they could execute their plan. The incident resulted in a dramatic shootout, leaving two suspects dead and five others arrested. Multiple firearms, including a R5 rifle and three AK47s, were recovered, along with three vehicles intended for use in the crime[1][2][3].

The police operation was a collaborative effort involving several specialized units, such as the SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation Head Office, Gauteng Multi-Disciplinary Tracking Team, Anti-Gang Unit, and other partners. The suspects were intercepted at Elias Motsoaledi Road in Dobsonville, where the fatal shootout occurred; further arrests took place on Chris Hani Road in Pimville. Officers also recovered a stolen Mercedes Benz. Community cooperation played a crucial role, as police credited the successful intervention to information supplied by residents[2][3].

National police commissioner Fannie Masemola commended the officers involved, emphasizing a resolute stance against violent crime and assuring the community that such actions would continue to be met with decisive law enforcement[1].
