Dobsonville Girl Killed

Two 16-year-old girls were found dead in a field off Braam Fischer Drive in Dobsonville, Soweto, in what appeared to be a ritualistic killing[1]. The incident deeply saddened the nation and drew strong condemnation from the South African government, which urged anyone with information to come forward to assist police with their investigation.

In another reported case, a man was arrested in Snake Park, Dobsonville, in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old girl[4]. These incidents underscore ongoing safety concerns facing young women and girls in the region.

The issue of femicide remains acute in South Africa. Reports show that, on average, 140 women or girls are killed every day, many by people known to them, reflecting a national crisis of violence against women[2]. In one Dobsonville case, a woman went missing after being collected by her boyfriend, and was later found dead, with the suspect subsequently taken into custody[3].
