The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) held their Gauteng provincial manifesto launch rally at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on March 2, 2024[2][3][4]. Thousands of supporters, referred to as “Fighters,” arrived at the stadium for the event, which centered on promises such as providing free education to all children of school-going age and writing off Eskom debts for all township and poor households should the EFF take over the province[3][4].
During his keynote address, EFF leader Julius Malema outlined the party’s commitments to the people of Gauteng. He stated that, under an EFF-led government, all outstanding Eskom debts for townships and poor households would be written off. Malema also proposed a reconfiguration of government, eliminating provincial governments and keeping only national and local governments, to enhance service delivery and avoid what he described as unnecessary expenditure on provincial structures.
Additional promises included the establishment of a Metropolitan Roads Agency aimed at creating 15,000 new jobs in the province. The event was featured in news coverage and on EFF’s official social media channels, confirming the rally took place at Dobsonville Stadium and was part of the party’s election campaign for 2024[2][3][4].
