Putco’s Dobsonville depot was described by Sowetan in 2022 as Putco’s largest base in Soweto. For bus routes, tickets and general queries, call the Putco call centre on 012 003 1791 or 012 003 1893, or email [email protected]. For Soweto operations, Putco lists 010 003 6225 and 010 003 3889. Bus hire at the Soweto (Dobsonville) depot is on 010 003 3882 or 010 003 3883.
We did not find an official Putco WhatsApp number on Putco’s website, so be careful with numbers shared on social media. Putco says its buses operate from 02h30 to 22h00.

Putco Dobsonville depot address
Putco’s website does not publish a street address for the Dobsonville depot. Third-party business directories place it on Elias Motsoaledi Road in Dobsonville. The depot is an operational site rather than a customer office, so phone Putco before you visit in person.
Is there a Putco Dobsonville WhatsApp number?
Not that we could find. The Putco contact page lists phone numbers and email addresses only. If someone asks you to pay or share personal details over WhatsApp in Putco’s name, check with the call centre first.
Routes & Destinations
Putco runs commuter buses linking Soweto townships with Johannesburg and other work areas. Putco does not publish a plain list of Dobsonville routes on its website. To find a route:
- Use the Putco route finder and enter your departure and destination points.
- Use the Putco mobile app, launched in 2026, which covers journey planning, routes, schedules, fares and SmartTap tickets on Android and iOS.
- Call the call centre or Soweto operations numbers above.
Timetables / Operating Times
Putco says its buses operate from 02h30 to 22h00. This is a company-wide figure, not a timetable for any Dobsonville route. Putco’s Zones & Fares (SmartTap) page says timetables can be viewed and downloaded there, but we did not find a Dobsonville-specific timetable, so no departure times are listed here.
Sunday, public holiday and school holiday services can differ from weekday services. Check the app or call Putco before you travel, especially early in the morning or late at night.
Fares (If Verified)
Putco fares depend on your route and the ticket product you buy. The Soweto passenger notice lists Trip Pass products for 4, 10, 12, 44 and 52 trips, priced by route code. Recent changes:
- 1 January 2026: Soweto fares increased by an average of 5%, according to a Putco Soweto passenger notice.
- 1 June 2026: Sowetan reported an average 10% fare increase, which Putco linked to higher diesel prices.
Because the June increase came after the January notice, the January prices are no longer current, so we do not list rand amounts. Ask Putco or check the app for the fare on your route.
Stops & Pickup Points
Putco buses stop at designated stops along each route, not at the depot. Find your nearest stop through the route finder or app, or ask the call centre. Arrive at the stop a few minutes early, as early-morning buses can fill up.
Service Alerts & Changes
- The Putco app, which Putco says includes service alerts.
- The official Putco Facebook page, which carries passenger notices such as fare changes.
- Putco’s news and publications page.
- The call centre on 012 003 1791 or 012 003 1893.
Fare changes, protests, strikes or road closures can affect services at short notice. In July 2022, for example, Sowetan reported that residents stopped 50 buses at the Dobsonville depot in a protest over a fare increase, which disrupted the morning service. Check for alerts when fares change.
Alternative Transport Options
If a Putco bus is not available, Dobsonville is also served by minibus taxis and Rea Vaya bus routes. Compare the options in Transport in Dobsonville.
