On 8 September 2023 the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, launched a key populations centre at Itireleng Clinic. It offers HIV and STI services tailored to key populations, including LGBTQI+ people, in a setting meant to be free of discrimination. Ask at reception how to access it.
HIV prevention
Itireleng CHC is on the National Department of Health’s June 2026 list of phase-one facilities for the rollout of lenacapavir, a long-acting HIV prevention injection. Ask the clinic whether it is available yet and whether you qualify.
Emergency room upgrade
The SAME Foundation reports that Truworths funded a R2.2 million renovation and equipment upgrade at the clinic, including a fully equipped two-bed resuscitation unit. The date of the upgrade is not stated on the foundation’s page.
Appointments & What to Bring
Public clinics mostly work on a walk-in basis, with some services on set days. Arrive early, because queues build up in the morning. Bring:
- ID document, birth certificate or passport
- Clinic card or file number, if you have been before
- Your child’s Road to Health booklet for immunisations and baby checks
- Your chronic medication card or the medicines you are taking
- Referral letters or test results
If you collect chronic medication, ask about collection days and whether you can use an external pick-up point.
Fees or Price Guidance (If Verified)
Primary healthcare at public clinics is free for most patients under national health policy. The clinic does not publish a fee schedule, so ask at reception if you are unsure whether a charge applies to you, for example if you are not a South African resident.
If you would rather pay for a quicker private consultation, CareKahle in Dobsonville Mall publishes its prices. See CareKahle Clinic Dobsonville operating hours.
